The Human Resources Institute of Alberta (HRIA) respects the privacy of all individuals who visit our website.

What is personal information?

Personal information is information about an identifiable individual, including home address, credit card numbers, personal email etc. It does not include information normally found on a business card such as name, title, company, business address, and business telephone or fax number.

Why does HRIA collect, use or disclose personal information?

HRIA is committed to administrating and delivering superior products and services to our members and stakeholders. As a result we collect, disclose & use information, when applicable, for the following purposes:

• To fulfill the objectives of the Association as outlined in the HRIA bylaws
• To process applications for membership and recertification of the CHRP designation.
• To process registrations for workshops, accredited exams, conferences and other HRIA events.
• To distribute association publications.
• To communicate notices of relevant conferences, seminars and courses, products and services.
• To contact members regarding membership and accreditation renewals.
• To notify members of new membership benefits and other Association related information
• To provide access to the Online Membership Directory for networking purposes.

Information collected may be placed in databases, word processing merge documents, and other electronic systems to facilitate the uses described above. 

How is information collected, used or disclosed on the HRIA website?

When you visit our website our web server automatically collects standard information including: IP address, domain, length of visit, pages visited, referring sites or sites from which you came, the site to which you go, browser type etc. We use this information to compile reports assessing the usefulness of our site to our visitors, to assess our marketing efforts, and to monitor our website's performance. These reports are statistical in nature and do not identify individual users. 

Some sections of our website may distribute “cookies” (small amounts of information) to your web browser about your visit to our site. Cookies enhance your browsing experience and allow us to recognize you when you return to the HRIA site. If you have concerns about this you can change your web browser settings to not accept this information or to display warning messages. 

The HRIA website contains links to external websites, owned and operated by third parties. We are not responsible for the content or privacy policies of such sites and recommend that you review their privacy policies prior to providing any personal information on those sites.

Our website is hosted by Cobalt in a Tier One data center managed by Equinix.

How do individuals provide HRIA with their consent?

By accessing and using information from our website or by sending information to the HRIA, you agree to the terms of this privacy policy and to our practices of collecting, using and disclosing your personal information. We may amend our privacy policy from time to time. Such updates may affect our practices of collecting, using and disclosing your personal information.  Exceptions to our privacy policy may be made for particular types of transactions. When such exceptions are to be made, your consent will be sought prior to your entering the transaction.

How secure is the information stored by HRIA?

The HRIA is committed to protecting all personal information collected. We maintain reasonable safeguards including, but not limited to, computer firewalls, password protected databases, locked filing cabinets and restricted access to offices. 
 

How can individuals access their personal information or relay concerns?

Individuals have a right to access and review their personal information collected by the Association.  

To make a request, gain access to your information, or file a complaint, please do so in writing to the address below. The HRIA reserves the right to charge a reasonable fee for the copying of this information.
