Volunteering

Founded by volunteers, the HRIA promotes and encourages maintenance of professional standard in the field of human resources management and works with the Canadian Council of Human Resources Associations (CCHRA) to define the standards and processes for certification as a Certified Human Resources Professional (CHRP).

Volunteerism has, and continues to be, an important cornerstone of the Association. Through the participation of volunteers the HRIA is able to develop new programs, organize member events and advance strategic initiatives in the HR profession.

The HRIA has numerous portfolios that members can get involved in, for a list of all opportunties click here.

Our volunteers make a substantial contribution to the continued success of HRIA through their time, commitment and efforts.

The rewards to volunteering include:

  • Earning CHRP recertification points
  • Gaining valuable experience
  • Helping guide the future direction of the HR profession
  • Connecting with HR professionals
  • Sharing your HR insights with others

The Volunteer Handbook [PDF - 626 KB, 5 PAGES] outlines the rewards and general responsibilities of being a volunteer with the HRIA. The handbook is an excellent soure of reference for volunteers.  It is best if committee members track time spent on the committee for recertification purposes.  Use the Time Log provided to track your time volunteering.

For a further decription of the committees and their role within HRIA, please refer to Committees.
