Exam Information

  • There are 150 multiple choice questions. Marking is 1 point for the correct answer and 0 points for the remaining three answers (1/0/0/0).
     
  • You are not deducted for incorrect answers so be sure to answer every question.
     
  • The HRIA offers a workshop to help you prepare for the NKE Exam.
     
  • Information is available on the CHRP website to help you prepare for this exam, including details on Exam Preparation Courses, recommended Textbooks and Sample Knowledge Assessment Questions. Visit the CHRP website today at www.chrp.ca and click on "Become a CHRP" to see the "Exam Centre". 
     
  • The exam questions are based on the Required Professional Capabilities (RPCs) applying to Academic Knowledge. Academic knowledge refers to basic facts, policies, practices, methods, legislation, etc. It is information that can be written into procedures and transferred fairly accurately during the learning process. Examples of academic knowledge include: the rights and responsibilities of management and labour during union organizing and negotiation processes; the various methods of training and developing staff; and human rights, employment equity and pay equity legislation.
     
  • In the chart below, the percentages provide guidelines on the extent to which each area of knowledge is emphasized within the NKE:
24.0% - Professional Practice 
19.8% - Staffing
18.8% - Organizational Learning, Training & Development
10.4% - Employee and Labour Relations
10.4% - Total Compensation
8.3% - Organizational Effectiveness
8.3% - Occupational Health,Safety & Wellness
100 % - Total
  • There is a list of text books on the CHRP website. They have only been listed as a guide if you do not have any text books of your own. Text books should only be required if there are areas of HR you have not dealt with recently and want to re-familiarize yourself with them.
