HRIA is the exclusive certifying body in Alberta for the nationally recognized Certified Human Resources Professional (CHRP) designation. The designation represents a commitment to a national standard of excellence, sets a benchmark for effective human resources practices, and emphasizes the strategic role of human resource management in business.
How can you obtain your CHRP?
Apply for Associate membership with the HRIA.
Register for and pass the National Knowledge Exam ® (NKE).
Upon successful completion you will become a "CHRP Candidate".
If not an Associate Route 3, confirm that a bachelor degree has been completed by sending us official transcripts from the granting university OR if degree was completed outside of Canada, have IQAS send an assessment of the degree directly to our office.
| Passed the NKE in 2012 or are currently a CHRP Candidate |
The options of writing the National Professional Practice Assessment (NPPA) and the experience validation are both options until June 2013. If you have the experience that you believe fulfills the requirements for the experience validation, you may choose to forego the NPPA in favor of the experience validation. |
| Pass the NKE in 2013 |
Will need to demonstrate a minimum of 3 years HR Professional work experience by submitting the Experience Validation document within 5 years of passing the NKE. |
NOTE: The Experience Validation document is available for viewing. HRIA will begin accepting submissions January 1, 2013.
Once you are a Certified Member, make sure you sign up for a New CHRP Orientation Session! These are held twice a year in both Edmonton and Calgary and are designed to: congratulate newly designated members, explain the benefits of your designation and the responsibilities of CHRPs, demystify the recertification process and to introdue you to other new CHRPs. Check the calendar of events for upcoming New CHRP Orientations.
