The Human Resources Institute of Alberta (HRIA) is the professional voice of human resources practitioners in Alberta. HRIA is a professional association dedicated to strengthening and promoting the profession of human resources.

HRIA encourages the maintenance of professional standards in the field of human resources management and works with the Canadian Council of Human Resources Associations (CCHRA) to define the standards and processes for certification as a Certified Human Resources Professional (CHRP). HRIA is the CHRP exclusive granting body for the province of Alberta. There are currently more than 2,300 CHRPs in Alberta. The CHRP designation is the gold standard for HR professionals in Canada. Governed by a board of directors consisting of both elected and appointed members, the HRIA actively promotes the use of the professional designation and encourages hiring practices that recognize the CHRP certification. In addition, HRIA serves as a spokesperson on human resources issues in the province of Alberta and represents the membership on issues at the provincial, national and international level.

With more than 5,000 members throughout the province of Alberta, HRIA works collaboratively with several regional associations to deliver coordinated member services, a variety of ongoing professional development selections and numerous networking opportunities.

HRIA is a founding member of the Canadian Council of Human Resources Association (CCHRA). CCHRA provides a national and international voice on human resources issues, representing over 40,000 members from across Canada. CCHRA is also a member of the North American Human Resources Association (NAHRMA) which represents over 300,000 members from Canada, United States and Mexico. CCHRA also represents Canada at the World Federation which consists of 70 member countries and a collective membership of 400,000+ worldwide.
