• Certified Human Resources Professional Designation (CHRP)

  The Certified Human Resources Professional (CHRP) designation is a nationally recognized level of achievement within the field of human resources in Canada. It reflects a conviction that the professional practice of human resources management can safeguard the interests of employers, employees and the business community.
  
  The CHRP designation recognizes professionalism and the critical role of people management in today’s workplace. CHRP candidates must demonstrate capabilities in a wide range of HR functions as well as skills in strategic thinking, business insight, change management and problem resolution. Through national certification, the HR profession continues to play an important role in linking business strategies to people management, and in securing the position of HR professionals as equal business partners at the senior management table.
  

  
  Please Note:
  To ensure current and future CHRPs are well prepared to meet the needs of business, effective January 1, 2011, CHRP Candidates – those who have passed the National Knowledge Exam™ (NKE) – will require a minimum of a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in order to register for the National Professional Practice Assessment™ (NPPA) and qualify for the CHRP designation.

  The HRIA manages one of Alberta’s most active online job opportunity sites for human resources professionals. It can be found in the members-only Careers section of the website. HRIA members get exclusive, password-protected access to career opportunities, from entry level to senior, across Alberta and beyond.
  
  HRIA members also receive a preferred rate when posting jobs online.
  

• Alberta HR Conference

  The Alberta Human Resources Conference and Annual General Meeting are the premiere professional development and networking events offered by the HRIA. The Alberta HR Conference is an annual event offering an exciting line-up of keynote speakers, concurrent speakers and a trade show exhibiting innovative HR products and services.
  
  HRIA members enjoy discounted conference registration fees.

• Network Magazine & HRIA E-Source

  Network magazine is the official publication of the Human Resources Institute of Alberta, mailed directly to members on a quarterly basis. The publication is positioned to create awareness and address issues in the human resources field. Network also informs members about HRIA initiatives as well as events, products and services relevant to HR professionals. An archive of past editions is available in the members-only section on the HRIA website as a resource for members.
  
  The HRIA also publishes a monthly e-newsletter, HRIA E-source. The newsletter includes timely news and event announcements as well as HR related articles and recertification tips.

• Volunteering

  Governed by a volunteer board of directors, HRIA members develop the strategy to move their organization forward. Members are invited to take a leadership position within the profession by volunteering on the HRIA board of directors or as a committee member. The HRIA also has a number of other committees and volunteer opportunities available for those interested in getting involved in the Association without being a member of the board of directors.
  
  The rewards of volunteering include gaining valuable experience, helping guide the future direction of the HR profession, earning points towards the renewal of the CHRP designation and meeting new people.

• Professional Development

  Since lifelong education is a fundamental building block of the organization, the HRIA financially supports professional development activities offered by local associations across Alberta.
  
  To keep members abreast of upcoming HR related seminars, workshops and events, the HRIA hosts a calendar. The HRIA also sponsors scholarships for HR students at the majority of educational institutions across Alberta.

  Membership in the HRIA facilitates networking with a diverse group of HR professionals at the annual conference and local events.
